Title Escalation for Trainers?

"The people we call 'trainers' also provide individualized advice and insights to our clients, but we often hear that the advice isn't taken seriously because it comes from someone with a fairly low-level job title. Is there a better term that would inspire more respect?"

—Sonny from Seattle

Sonny—

Job titles do make a big difference in how people are perceived. My favorite example is the banking world, where the sales reps—the people who are peddling credit cards and mortgages—are all "vice presidents."

There are a lot of possible titles that would work in your case, but probably the most flexible is something like "Implementation Consultant." That implies that their role is to offer advice, and also suggests they have a specific area of expertise (using "consultant" by itself as a title is bound to inspire all the usual consultant jokes...).

One benefit of this kind of title inflation is that your trainers will probably feel some pressure to take their advisory role more seriously. So your clients will benefit, too.
